How to make my hair curly?

by Sally Beauty

Curly hairs are very trending these days. According to the survey, most women go to salons for hair treatments. Because it's very difficult to maintain your hair health, you might have that your hair gets poofy after straightening or curling. Well, there could be many reasons. It might be you are not using the right shampoo, or you may not have used the right styling tool. Whatever the reason, we are always ready to help you with our tips and tricks.

Today, in this article, we will explain how you can make your curly without damaging it. Moreover, we will discuss some tips you can use in your hair routine. So, let's get into the guide:

How to get curly hair?

     1. Braiding Hair

One of the easiest ways to get curly hair without using heat is to braid your hair and keep it for a whole night. So, when you wake up in the morning, you have to untie your braid and apply any smooth hair oil to tame the frizz.

     2. Shrinking Hair

If you have some textured hair, this will be the easiest technique for you. Just spray the medium-to-edge sea salt spray on damp hair and shrink it. The shrinking motion will gently pressure your hair edges from bottom to top. Through this technique, you will get natural waves in your hair.

     3. Using Hair Rollers

You might be thinking that hair roller is an old method, probably my grandmother's method, somehow, it's true, but still, this technique works so well. The best thing about hair rollers is they give you heat-free, attractive curls. Use it on damp hairs. Simply start sectioning your hair from bottom to top, roll it on a hair roller and secure it with the bobby pins. Let your hair dry for 2-3 hours. If you have straight hairs, you can also keep them overnight. You will get beautiful curly hair, and you can style them with hairspray.

     4. Grab an old T-shirt

Sounds a little weird, but believe me, this technique works. You might also have seen many videos on this technique on YouTube. This method is also famous for the name "hello" method to get a heat-free curl.

To use this technique, roll the T-shirt into a roll and tie the ends together to create one big DIY halo. Then place the halo on your head, wrap it around your hair, and secure it with the pins. Leave your hair in the halo overnight. In the morning, remove all pins, and you will get a soft and elastic curl.

     5. Use Socks bun

Another creative and effective way to get curly hair is to use a socks bun. Use any old socks and cut them off from the top, and roll them on your hair into a donut shape. Once you have the sock bun, put the ponytail through the hole and pull a piece of hair to make a big bun. Again, let the bun sit overnight. You will get a gorgeous wavy curl.

     6. Using a plain headband

All you need is a good old headband and a textured product for this technique. Cover your hair with a Coachella-style headband and moisturize the curls with a texture spray. Twist a part of the hair on the headband. This will give you a funky up style. Add some water to your hair and wait a few hours or overnight for the hair to dry completely. Untie the hair to get curly hair.

     7. Twist Your Hair

Twisting hair is a French technique that is very easy to create a salon-style wave. Just twist the pieces of hair together, and you will get twisted curls in your hair.

     8. Try Spoolies

Spoolies are a type of hair curler used to get heat-free curls. Just twist a piece of hair around the spool and bend it to hold the hair. After rolling up your hair, you can air dry it overnight and remove it when you wake up in the morning. The longer you leave the Spoolies on, the tighter curl you will get.

     9. Plop Your Hair

This is the most popular technique on TikTok. Plopping hair is one of the best-protected methods to curl your hair. This method uses hair care products to create natural curls and waves overnight. After taking a shower, apply the desired hair care product to your hair and wrap it in a cotton T-shirt. Keep the shirt overnight and then in the morning, take it off. You will get cute curls.

How to take care of curly hair?

Here are some of the tips you can use in your hair care routine

     1. Choose your shampoo wisely

Washing your hair with the right shampoo is your routine's first and most important thing. If you want healthy, clean hair, you need to ensure that there will be no dust, excess oil, dead skin cells, or product buildup on the scalp when washing your hair. The best shampoo you can use for your curly hair is a mild shampoo that does not contain toxins or chemicals like sulfates, silicones, alcohols, and parabens that can irritate your scalp. Sulfate and parabens are the two most popular preservatives in hair care products. For your curly hairs, choose the shampoo that is a mild surfactant, fragrance-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free, and paraben-free formulations.

     2. Avoid using excessive shampoo

Curly hair dries out faster than straight hair. If you wash your hair excessively, it will lose its natural moisture. Therefore, when you are buying your shampoo or conditioner, look for those products that have moisturizing ingredients in them.

     3. Treatment before shampoo

The pre-shampoo treatment is very important for curly hairs, or you can say that it's a blessing for curly hairs. Pre-treatment includes conditioner, hair mask, and oil. These products help in removing the frizz from hair. Apply a hair mask or any nourishing oil to your hair before applying shampoo and leave it for 20 to 30 minutes. After that, apply a small amount of conditioner for 20 minutes. You can use a shower cap or towel to trap the heat and open the cuticle. This allows the conditioner to penetrate the hair well and protects it from environmental damage.

     4. Never brush curly hair

I know it's difficult to resist the urge to brush your hair after washing, but brushing curly hair after washing is a bad idea. It will create more frizz in your hair. Therefore, you should always wipe your fingers on your wet hair after washing it, and it's the best way to avoid breakage and damage. There is also an alternative way. If you want to brush your hair, you can use a wide comb before washing hair.

     5. Moderate heat hair styling

Using high temperature for styling or heat styling tools can remove the natural texture of your hair, and your hair will become dull and frizzy. Therefore, if you want to take care of your curly hair, avoid using heat styling tools, and if you want to use one with a good thermal protection spray that could protect your hair from burning. Always use moderate heat and a diffuser to protect your curly hair.

     6. Use a very wide toothcomb

A wide-toothed comb is best for curly hairs; it helps remove the tangled curly hair. If there is any knot in your hair, just comb it from bottom to top to remove the knot. Avoid using hairbrushes because they can ruin your natural hair texture and damage your hair.

     7. Always use cold water on your hair

Always remember that hot water is not good for curly hairs as it removes the natural oils and sebum from your scalp and hair. Also, it opens the cuticle, making it easier for the hair to curl or break. Therefore, whether you want to shampoo or conditioner your hair, always uses cold water as it's the safest choice.

     8. Trimming to avoid split ends

Trimming is essential every 6-8 weeks to remove split ends and damaged hair. Even curly hair needs to look healthy.

     9. Curly hair sleep routine

You might have heard this first, but your hair needs a proper sleep routine. You might be thinking about how to sleep with curly hair. Well, place all your hair on your head in a bun or a ponytail form. This way, there will be less friction between the hair and your pillowcase. Use satin or silk pillowcases instead of cotton to reduce friction.

     10. Try natural remedies for healthy curly hair

Natural hair masks are best for curly hair because they have no side effects. You can prepare a hair mask using olive oil, eggs, vinegar, and mayonnaise and apply it to the hair. Leave it for 30 minutes, and then rinse with a mild shampoo. Eggs are very beneficial for hair. They will provide protein to your hair, whereas mayonnaise moisturizes and give shine to your dry hair. You can also use avocado as it's rich in vitamins B and E. For making an avocado mask crush the ripe avocado with 1 tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Apply this mask to the curly hair and let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse with a gentle shampoo.
